What Is Home Education?
Home education, also known as elective home education (EHE), is the choice to educate a child outside of a formal school setting. Under Section 7 of the Education Act 1996, parents are legally responsible for ensuring their child receives a full time education that is suitable for their age, ability and any special educational needs.​ Home education does not need to follow the National Curriculum. Families can create a personalised approach using tutors, learning centres, online resources, libraries and home based learning. What matters is that education is efficient, appropriate and safe, while meeting the individual needs of the child.

Why Families Choose Home Education
Families choose home education for many reasons, including:

• Choosing a different educational route that better suits their child and family life

• A preference for smaller groups and a more personalised approach

• When school has been tried and, for various reasons, has not been the right fit

• Anxiety, trauma or mental health needs linked to school

• Autism, ADHD, dyslexia or other neurodivergent profiles

• Unmet special educational needs in mainstream settings

• Bullying, sensory overload or rigid school routines

• Religious, cultural or philosophical beliefs

• A desire for a more flexible, child led or holistic approach

How Little Classroom Supports Home Education 
At Little Classroom, we support home educating families who want to reduce pressure and support learning at a pace that feels right for their child.

All activities support the fundamental aspects of the EYFS and National Curriculum, providing children with a strong, well rounded foundation across core subjects. We work closely with parents to create individualised learning plans that reflect each child’s goals, interests and learning style.

Learning is delivered through play based activities and practical resources, with child led exploration encouraged in both our indoor and outdoor environments. Sessions also provide valuable opportunities for children to socialise with peers within the home education community. For children who are ready, and in consultation with parents, we use curriculum supportive materials to develop learning across all subjects, including number, shape, space and measure. Alongside this, a wide range of resources are used to support reading, writing, comprehension and SPaG (spelling, punctuation and grammar).
